Boise, ID – Attorney General Raúl Labrador has announced that Deputy Attorney General John Olson will serve as the Acting Chief of the Consumer Protection Division after longtime current chief Brett DeLange retires later this month.

Attorney General Labrador said, “John has worked in the Consumer Protection Division as an exceptional antitrust litigator for the last six years. He is an incredible asset to the team, and we’re very excited for him to serve as the Acting Chief starting January 18th.”

Attorney General Labrador wishes Brett DeLange a wonderful retirement and thanks him for his years of service.

Labrador has also named Mitch Toryanski to serve as Associate Attorney General on his executive team. In this role, Mitch will handle legislative and intergovernmental affairs, among other duties. Mitch previously served as an Idaho Deputy Attorney General providing legal counsel to Idaho’s constitutional officers and the Idaho Legislature. Mitch also served as a State Senator and was the Inspector General for the Idaho National Guard. Toryanski is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Attorney General Labrador said, “Mitch will be an outstanding asset to our team, he will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to our office, and we are eager for him to get started.”

John Olson has worked in the Consumer Protection Division of the Idaho Attorney General’s Office for the past six years. He has worked on important matters such as antitrust law and litigation related to the States’ Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement. Prior to joining the Attorney General’s Office, Olson was a partner and commercial litigator at the Hawley Troxell law firm. Before Hawley Troxell, he clerked for the Honorable Will Garwood of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Olson earned his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, graduating with honors and serving as the Chief Articles Editor for the Texas Law Review.

Mitch Toryanski previously served as an Idaho Deputy Attorney General, providing legal counsel to Idaho’s constitutional officers and the Idaho Legislature. Additionally, he aided local government attorneys throughout Idaho and counseled the Idaho Department of Insurance. Outside of the Idaho Attorney General’s Office, Toryanski served as a deputy prosecuting attorney, legal counsel to 30 professional and occupational state regulatory boards, an Idaho State Senator, general counsel for an Idaho high-tech manufacturing company, and managing partner of a private law firm. Toryanski also served as Inspector General of the Idaho National Guard. Toryanski is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. He earned a law degree from American University’s Washington College of Law and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College.
