To make a public records request of the Office of the Attorney General, please fill out the form below. For additional assistance in making a public records request of our office, contact public records custodians Kriss Bivens Cloyd at 208-334-4119 or Scott Graf at 208-334-4112.
Please note: The Office of the Attorney General does not maintain a statewide database of public records. Records requests should be filed with the governmental entity where the record originated.
For instance, if you’re interested in obtaining a police report or arrest record, please do so with the local law enforcement agency where the record was generated.
For records such as birth, death, marriage or divorce certificates, please contact the Idaho Bureau of Vital Records.
Also, under Idaho law, the Office of the Attorney General does not have the authority to enforce the state’s Public Records Law. Instead, the law provides for private enforcement. When individuals or organizations feel like they’ve been improperly denied access to public records, it is up to the individual or organization to challenge the records denial in court.
To help foster open government and increase private citizens’ understanding of Idaho’s Public Records Law, the Office of the Attorney General has created a Public Records Manual. The manual illustrates how Idaho’s Public Records Law establishes a basic set of ground rules securing the public’s access to government records, while still preserving an individual’s right to privacy.
