(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced a Gem County woman was sentenced Wednesday, February 5, for misappropriation or diversion of fiduciary funds.

62-year-old Cassandra H. Aune, of Emmett, pleaded guilty in September.

Fourth District Court Judge James Cawthon withheld judgment and placed Aune on supervised probation for three years. The judge ordered her to pay restitution and court costs. The amount of restitution will be determined on March 11.

The Idaho Department of Insurance began an investigation after receiving a consumer complaint alleging that Aune – a licensed insurance provider – had received cash for a client’s premium payment but did not apply it to the client’s account. Investigators determined Aune had misappropriated clients’ premium payments on other occasions, as well. Aune later admitted to investigators she had transferred client funds to a personal account.

Deputy Attorney General Nicole Schafer in the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted the case.
