(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced a Twin Falls County woman was sentenced Monday, July 15, for insurance fraud.

26-year-old Taylor Scruggs of Twin Falls pleaded guilty on April 15, 2019.

Fifth District Court Judge Roger Harris sentenced Scruggs to two years of felony probation and granted a withheld judgment. As part of her probation, Scruggs must pay a $500 fine, court costs and fees. The court also ordered her to pay $896 in restitution to the Idaho Department of Insurance.

Scruggs was involved in a two-vehicle collision on October 18, 2017. After the accident, Scruggs purchased auto insurance from Progressive. When a claim was filed, Scruggs reported to Progressive that the collision occurred after the policy purchase. An investigation revealed that the collision occurred prior to the policy purchase and the claim was denied.

Deputy Attorney General Jessica Cafferty in the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit prosecuted the case. The Idaho Department of Insurance investigated.
