(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has announced a Canyon County man was sentenced Tuesday, August 27, for provider fraud.
34-year-old Travis Behrens, of Nampa, pleaded guilty in June.
Behrens received a withheld judgement for two years from Third District Court Judge George Southworth. The court ordered the defendant to pay $4,056 in restitution to Idaho Medicaid, a $500 fine and court costs. Behrens was also sentenced to 30 days in jail, which can be satisfied by completing 10 days in the Canyon County Sheriff’s Inmate Labor Detail Program.
In 2013, Behrens was employed by Idaho Behavioral Health to provide community-based rehabilitation services to clients. The company discovered that Behrens had falsified several progress notes, causing it to submit claims to Idaho Medicaid for services that had not been provided. Upon making the discovery, Idaho Behavioral Health contacted the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit. The unit investigated and confirmed that Behrens engaged in the fraudulent conduct.
Deputy Attorney General Rondee Blessing prosecuted the case.
