Boise Woman Sentenced for Insurance Fraud

(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden says a Boise woman has been sentenced for one count of insurance fraud.  Fourth District Judge Jason Scott gave Michelle A. Earl a 1 year fixed and a 2 year indeterminate prison sentence.

The court suspended the prison sentence and placed Earl on 3 years of supervised probation. The judge also ordered her to perform 100 hours of community service.

Earl, 44, was found guilty of one count of felony insurance fraud on August 30, 2016 by a jury.  Earl purchased renter’s insurance and filed a claim for water damages that occurred prior to the policy’s inception.  She provided a false date of loss to her insurance company with intent to defraud.

Homesite Insurance referred the case to the Idaho Department of Insurance’s Fraud Investigation Unit for additional investigation. The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Jessica Cafferty of the Attorney General’s Insurance Crimes Unit.
