Idaho Falls Man Sentenced for Insurance Fraud

(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden says Robert C. MacNeilage, 31, was sentenced for two counts of insurance fraud March 12, 2015. Seventh District Judge Jon Shindurling sentenced MacNeilage to two years fixed with six years indeterminate. The court retained jurisdiction. He was also ordered to pay $ 1,000 fine and court costs. A restitution hearing will be held at a later date.

MacNeilage of Idaho Falls was found guilty by an Idaho Falls jury last November of two counts of insurance fraud by presenting a false or altered statement to his insurance company regarding the damage to his 2013 BMW and to his 2002 Ford truck. MacNeilage intentionally damaged the two vehicles and filed a claim with Progressive Insurance on March 28, 2013. In his claim, he alleged the two vehicles were damaged in an accident.

The case was investigated by the Idaho Department of Insurance and prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Lisa Donnell of the Attorney General’s Insurance Crimes Unit.

Insurance fraud is a felony that impacts all Idahoans. Anyone who witnesses or suspects insurance fraud is encouraged to contact the Idaho Department of Insurance at www.doi.idaho.gov.
