Meridian man faces felony charge in Canyon County
(Boise) – John Prior, a 50-year-old resident of Meridian, has been charged with battery with the intent to commit rape, a violation of Idaho Code § 18-911, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. The Canyon County Grand Jury indicted Prior on the felony charge on April 4, 2012. Prior turned himself in at the Ada County Jail the following day. His initial court appearance has been set for April 20 in Canyon County Magistrate Court.
The Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit is handling the matter at the request of the Canyon County Prosecuting Attorney. The Nampa Police Department investigated the case when the alleged victim came forward in May 2011. The lead investigator on this matter is Detective Angela Weekes, who can be reached at 475-5713.
Attorney General Wasden noted that an indictment functions as a mere accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
