Refunds Available from Settlement with Computer Maker Dell

(Boise) - In an agreement between the State of Idaho and Texas-based Dell, Inc., Idaho customers who experienced problems with the company’s financing promotions, rebate offers, technical support and repair policies might be entitled to receive restitution.

Consumers who believe Dell did not fulfill its warranty or rebate obligations or believe they were harmed by a failure by Dell to properly disclose the financing and credit terms connected with the purchase may be eligible for a refund under the settlement.

Dell and its subsidiary, Dell Financial Services, LLC, have agreed to pay $25,000 in restitution to eligible Idaho consumers who file claims with the Attorney General by April 13, 2009. Dell also agreed to change its business practices, including its advertising of financing and credit offers, its fulfillment of rebate offers, its provision of warranty services and its account collection procedures.

Idaho residents who believe they are eligible for refunds must complete a claim form and return it to the Attorney General before April 13, 2009. You can download a claim form from the Attorney General’s website.  You may also call the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division to request a form by mail. The amount of money issued to individual consumers depends on the number of eligible recipients and the total amount claimed. Dell admitted no liability or wrongdoing under the settlement.
