Former Kooskia City Councilman Sentenced to Prison for Sexual Abuse of a Minor
(Boise) – James A. Cochran, a former member of the Kooskia City Council, was sentenced to prison today for sexual abuse of a minor, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said.
Second District Judge Jeff Brudie ordered Cochran to serve at least 5 years and up to 15 years in prison and pay $2,500 in restitution to the victim. Cochran must also register as a sex offender.
Cochran, 43, was arrested on April 24, 2006, on a charge of lewd conduct with a minor under the age of 16. On May 18, 2007, an Idaho County jury found him guilty of the lesser offense of sexual abuse of a minor.
The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Unit at the request of Idaho County Prosecuting Attorney Kirk MacGregor. Deputy Attorney General Justin Whatcott prosecuted the case.
