Yellow Pages Refund Deadline is Wednesday
(Boise) – Attorney General Lawrence Wasden today reminded Idaho businesses that the deadline to file a claim for a refund from YP Corporation is this Wednesday, February 28. Refunds are available from a settlement reached by Idaho and 32 other states with YP Corporation. YP Corporation did business under the names YP.com, YP Corp, and Telco Billing.
“Current YP.com customers received a letter from the company, and I encourage them to promptly file a claim with the company,” Attorney General Wasden said. “Additionally, we obtained $12,000 to distribute to Idaho businesses or organizations that are not current customers of YP.com. These former customers may receive a partial refund by filing a claim with the Attorney General’s Office.”
The settlement with YP.com resolved legal issues regarding solicitations that more than 6,000 Idaho businesses received. The solicitations contained “live” activation checks payable to the business or organization for a small amount of money. Above the endorsement line was language stating that, by depositing the check, the recipient agreed to purchase advertising from YP.com for its online yellow pages and that monthly fees would be billed in advance on the business’s telephone bill or the account in which the check was deposited.
A claim form for former customers is posted on the Attorney General’s website, or you may request one by calling the Consumer Protection Unit at (208) 334–2424 or (800) 432–3545, toll–free from outside of the Boise calling area. Current YP.com customers received a claim form in the letter from YP.com.
