Scott Shaw Sentenced for Misuse of Public Money and Perjury

(Boise) – Former Preston Police Chief C. Scott Shaw was sentenced today for misuse of public money and perjury, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said.

Sixth District Judge N. Randy Smith ordered Shaw to serve at least one year and up to five years in prison.

On December 6, 2004, the Attorney General’s Office filed a criminal complaint charging Shaw with seven felonies. Shaw pleaded guilty on September 6, 2005 and admitted to committing two felonies.

Shaw pleaded guilty to misusing public money for personal purposes and then lying about it under oath in a lawsuit over his termination as the Preston Chief of Police.

The Attorney General’s Criminal Investigation and Special Prosecutions Units investigated and prosecuted the case at the request of former Franklin County Prosecuting Attorney Jay McKenzie.
