Chad Allen Wanke Sentenced in Purse Snatching Case
(Boise) – Chad Allen Wanke, 36, was sentenced yesterday for a robbery last fall, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. Fourth District Judge Michael Wetherell ordered Wanke to serve at least five years and up to 15 years in prison. Wanke must also pay restitution to the victim.
The robbery occurred October 28, 2004 in the parking lot of a Meridian grocery store. The victim was placing the pumpkins she purchased for her grandchildren in her vehicle when Wanke approached her and stole her purse. The victim followed Wanke to his vehicle in an attempt to recover her purse. When the victim reached into Wanke’s vehicle to retrieve her purse, Wanke hit her in the face with his fist. He then accelerated out of the parking lot dragging the victim. Wanke abruptly stopped the vehicle and punched the victim in the face a second time. Wanke was unable to dislodge the victim from his vehicle so he accelerated again, stopped abruptly and struck the victim in the face a third time. When the victim fell to the pavement, Wanke left the parking lot.
Wanke, an Ada County resident, pleaded guilty on July 13, 2005 to one count of robbery.
The Special Prosecutions Unit of the Attorney General's Criminal Law Division prosecuted the case at the request of Ada County Prosecuting Attorney Greg Bower.
