(Boise) - John Ivan Conley and Dennis Wayne Merrick were sentenced Thursday for attempted robbery, Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said. Fourth District Judge Michael Wetherell sentenced Merrick to serve up to 14 years in prison with five years fixed. Conley was sentenced to serve up to 15 years in prison. The court suspended Conley’s prison sentence and placed him on probation for 10 years.
Boise residents John Conley, 54, and Dennis Merrick, 51, were convicted by a Boise jury on March 2, 2005 of one count of attempted robbery. On October 30, 2002, Conley and Merrick entered a Boise home occupied by a family of five with the intent to steal illegal drugs.
The Special Prosecutions Unit of the Attorney General's Criminal Law Division prosecuted the case at the request of Ada County Prosecuting Attorney Greg Bower. Deputy Attorneys General J. Scott James and Robert Schwarz prosecuted the case.
