Attorney General to Conduct University Place Review
(Boise) - Attorney General Lawrence Wasden today said that his office will conduct a criminal review of the University Place project.
On December 17, 2003, Ada County Prosecuting Attorney Greg Bower, citing conflicts of interest in his office, asked Wasden to conduct a review and, if appropriate, to proceed with criminal prosecutions. After completing an internal review to determine that his office has sufficient resources and does not have conflicts, Wasden notified Bower today that the Office of Attorney General has accepted the case.
"The University Place project involved multiple, highly complex financial transactions," Attorney General Wasden said. "Our work on this matter will be equally complex. Using the Special Deputy Attorney General's Management Review as a starting point, we must first determine all of the relevant facts. We must then determine whether there were criminal violations of state laws. This is going to take considerable time and resources. I anticipate that our review will take, at a minimum, several months and possibly longer."
